On your mark... get set... GO!!
My name is Curtis Bonds, also known as CurtDogg, and I’d like to present to you “Double NintenDare!! A Retro-Fueled Nintendo Game Show!”.
As someone who has near-encyclopedic knowledge of Nintendo and 90s game shows, I’ve always wanted to combine my two passions into something fun that many gaming convention-goers could enjoy.In 2016, I was given that chance to finally bring that vision to life at MAGfest, and again at the very first MAGwest in 2017.The response was overwhelmingly positive, not only from the audiences attending, but some of the higher-ups at both events saying that Double NintenDare is a shining example of how much presentation and passion matters when hosting a panel.
In between each round, as we set up the next group of contestants, we also have “commercial breaks” consisting of classic and iconic commercials from the 80s, 90s, and early 00s, to give the game show an authentic, nostalgic TV programming feel. From Crossfire, to Muzzy, to Sears Air Conditioning, to Zoobooks, there’s always something to unlock a hidden memory within anyone’s brain.
Double NintenDare has been held at three MAGfests, every single MAGwest, three PAX Easts, three PAX Wests (in which the previous two shows here were some of the only panels who had to turn people away due to the room reaching its max capacity), and two Portland Retro Gaming Expos.It’s not only been praised by the contestants who participate, but the general audience as well. They consistently talk about how the show was the highlight of the convention, and admired just how much effort is put into the show to give it an authentic game show feel.It’s been considered a gold-star panel, that encourages and influences people to come to the convention, and participate in something fun, wholesome, and non-cynical.
Double NintenDare can add a much-needed positive interactive game show experience to your convention. From the competition, to the presentation, to the general good vibes that come from everyone who plays and watches the show, con-goers will walk away from this game show feeling like they were part of something really special.I have an entire playlist of the shows I’ve done thus far, but if you would like to see the type of energy the show can really bring, I would personally recommend watching the show from PAX West 2019.
